The Monroe County Convention & Tourism Bureau works to attract visitors, as well as serves as a “concierge” once they arrive. Since our founder Francois Navarre settled this area in the late 1700s, residents discover the charm and bountiful resources of our region.
During the War of 1812, over 900 settlers were massacred. A momument that pays tribute to the contribution of the Kentucky Militia sits proudly in downtown Monroe.
General George Armstrong Custer is the youngest man appointed general in the U.S. military. A monument dedicated to his memory stands at the gateway to the City of Monroe and in tribute to his wife Libbie who was born here.
The River Raisin Jazz Festival is one of the finest free music festivals in the Midwest, attracting top artists like Grammy Award winner Chuck Mangione. It is held the second weekend in August in St. Mary’s Park on the banks of the River Raisin.
We hope you will enjoy your time in Monroe. For visitor information, call (800) 252-3011, email the thebureau@monroeinfo.com, or go to www.monroeinfo.com.
